Fahey, Mahoney, and the Capital Markets

Tori is a world away, although in time we're on the brink of seeing each other again.

Having said that, we're about a week short of making a date, so I needed a fill in. BD&P got Tori and onto the world music series years ago, and although I initially dismissed this year's tickets, I extended the invite to a certain Mahoney, FirstEnergy's VP of Syndication - might as well stick with the Irish.

Mahoney and I have known each other for a decade. Our age is within 50% of each other I'm guessing. We both use the services of BD&P extensively, whom the tickets for the event came from. A Mahoney is just what a securities firm needs. You can read in the paper about markets up, markets down, and capital going to economic activity in the provinces. To put a human face to that, there's a Mahoney that billions of dollars of equity capital funnel through each year in equity syndication. An Irish daughter growing up from a family of many, in the province of Saskatchewan, is perfect for this... Absolutely by definition. The same who can wear shiny red stub toed boots to work is the same who as a little girl heard "Mahoney, put your back into it" in Saskatchewan. Ever notice how many kingpins of capitalism are from SK?

We saw 15 Irish performers - singers, dancers and musicians. Beautiful voices, quick feet, and talented hands. Amazing really to in close proximity to those with real talent. What can a culture of great diaspora take with them? Wit, dancing tunes, tunes of truisms of life, and plain black dancing shoes.

I was asked this week if I thought I really knew Tori. I don't think you really ever get a grasp of anyone, as people are constantly changing, but a background reminder on what comes with an Irish descendant was helpful.
