We've been in Phnom Penh for a few hours now. I can't really verbalize all that's going on, other than there's a whole lot of people doing a whole lot of shit everywhere, all at once, in every direction, noisily, while sweating in the heat but still wearing pants, sweaters, jackets and hats. It's really cool to watch, I love it.
Pictures are of area, of market, of stuff for sale at market, the mechanic shop, and a double capture of family transport (child seats not necessary).
Other than that, English isn't "spoken" much, but it's an understanding game. I'm a little short on contact lens solution. One lady pointed down the street with an accompanying phonetic approximation of pharmacy. The pharmacy said the phonetic equivalent of eye drops, then I showed "but big bottle" - "ahh, wasing eye" complete with motion. Righto. But they didn't have it either, pointed to next pharmacy direction. He didn't have it either but said "eye docto that way" and did how many blocks and lefts and rights by hand. Sweet. But I'm tired and we'll try that tomorrow, I've had enough market action for one night, and gotta save some energy to tackle some seriously flavoured dinner.
Also, a serious Asian cycling highlight is the cost of laundry service. A full mesh bag of stuff in the crazy market down the street is... $1. Some hotels have been much steeper, like $3, when you give it to them at 5pm and want it back in your room by 9pm. Its returned in a little basket nicely folded. 2 shorts 2 jerseys 2 pairs of socks probably all that's needed even for a long haul trip.
